SUSTAINABLE LUXURY

We are steadfast in our commitment to sustainable luxury. Our goal is to lead the way in environmentally responsible production, pushing the boundaries of what is achievable. In 2020 and 2023, Bernie was named as one of the 50 most influential people in British luxury by Walpole. She was singled out as a custodian of the future and for her tireless work on sustainability.

RESPONSIBLY SOURCED

We have always been proud of being deeply committed to ethical sourcing and environmentally friendly practices.

We are passionate about creating fabrics and accessories that are designed for longevity, in style, materials, and life cycle.

It is our mission to create beautiful products, of the highest quality with minimal impact:  Putting sustainability at the heart of product creation and distribution. We are dedicated to demonstrating that elegance and environmental stewardship can go hand in hand. By continually exploring new methods and forming alliances with like-minded partners, we strive to continually improve the environmental credentials of our collections.

We are proud to have been amongst the first to bring a certified collection of 100% organic fabrics to GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) to the interiors market. Bernie and her team work exclusively with specialist mills to ensure we know the origins of every natural fibre used.

REDUCING OUR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

Wherever we can we consider the environmental impact of our decisions. As a luxury brand with a global presence, we aim to reduce the impact of our packaging. Our paper and card packaging is recyclable and made from recycled or FSC certified sources. FSC certified forests protect waterways and wildlife habitats, conserve regions of high biodiversity, and minimize the impact of harvesting.

Our focus is on sustainability from large projects, like our flagship Belgravia store on Pimlico Road in London, re-modelled in 2018 using mostly recycled materials and zero plastic, to the compostable cups we use at events and exhibitions. Recent initiatives include the Revitalise service, transforming your treasured vintage de Le Cuona products into new pieces that increase their longevity and helps promotes a circular economy.

We are always assessing and re-assessing how we can improve as we continue to strive forward in our journey as a thoughtful business.

REVITALISE

Part of maintaining a sustainable home is taking care of the textiles you love. Find out how our Revitalise service can extend the life of your favourite de Le Cuona fabric furnishings and fabrics.

SUSTAINABLE RETAIL DESTINATION

de Le Cuona’s flagship Pimlico Road store opened in November 2018, and used mostly recycled materials in its design. As opposed to using plastic, the store comprises stunning pieces made from compressed paper, such as the large play table on the ground floor, ironwork along the railings, concrete, terrazzo, and resin. The decision to avoid plastic where alternative materials can be used came from a conscious choice, in founder Bernie de Le Cuona’s attempt to take on the ever-growing plastic pollution issue, currently dominating climate change talks.

SAMPLE RECYCLING SCHEME

Our sample recycling scheme is a small solution to a wider problem. A WRAP study into the composition and re-use potential of household bulky textiles found that of all bulky waste in the UK, around 19% (310,000 tonnes) consists of textiles.

In an attempt to cut down our textile waste and promote a circular economy, whereby resources are kept in use for as long as possible and the maximum value is extracted from them, clients are now encouraged to recycle their unused and unwanted samples, by dropping them off at one of our London locations – 44 Pimlico Road or Design Centre Chelsea Harbour showroom, posting them back to our UK warehouse, Unit 3 Vansittart Trading Estate, Alma Road, Windsor SL4 1SE, or returning them to your local representative.

As landfills contribute a large amount to greenhouse gases and global warming, recycling is a small step in the right direction, helping us to reduce pollution. We encourage everyone to do their part in preserving the earth for future generations.
