Plain Fabrics

A plain woven fabric is created by interlacing warp and weft yarns on a loom. Depending on the fibres and yarns used, plain woven fabrics can range from delicate sheers to robust upholstery fabrics, with finishes that vary from smooth and refined to richly textured. When woven from natural undyed yarns, the resulting fabric highlights the inherent beauty and colour of the fibres. For coloured plain woven fabrics, the yarns may be dyed before weaving or the fabric may be piece-dyed after it has been woven.

Plain fabrics showcase the natural beauty of fibres such as linen, wool and cotton through subtle texture and understated elegance. Their versatility and durability make them ideal for a wide range of interior applications. Often used on larger elements within a room, such as sofas, curtains and fabric-covered walls, plain fabrics can create a calm, grounding backdrop. They can also be used in rich or vibrant colours to introduce depth, character and visual interest.
